Effective Monday, August 9th 2010, due to a Supreme Court ruling back in January of this year, parents may no longer reserve the right to inflict harm upon their children as a form of punishment. In fact doing so is now classified as second degree assault on a child and those found guilty may face up to 5 years in prison and the possibility of 10 years on a registered offender list.

Spearheaded by child advocate group “Don’t Beat the Kids” (DBK), this new law is already stirring up controversy. While some call it a victory for human rights on par with the Women’s Suffrage and Civil Rights movements, others are calling it a calamity.

Lobbyists for the parental rights group “Tough Love” cry out against this new law and are preparing a lawsuit against the United State’s Government for infringing upon their rights.

Tough Love member Joanne DeFrost states, “It ain’t right I tell ya! How else are we supposed to raise our children to be good adult’s without the right to smack them when they get outa line? Thats how I was brought up!”. Other Tough Love members were quoted saying, “This is the worse thing thats happened to children since Michael Jackson”.

Some Tough Love protesters participated in a form of civil disobedience upon hearing the news, where they spanked their child in front of observers. There is no news of any arrests stemming from this occurrence, however our police sources say there will be an investigation into these claims.
